Welcome and discover our opnMe portal - What does “Designed by us – Unlocked by you – Developed together” mean in more detail?
In the interest of progressing science, Boehringer Ingelheim is making compounds available to the scientific public. These molecules, designed by Boehringer Ingelheim scientists, can be used as tools to validate your scientific hypotheses and unlock novel biology. There are two types of Boehringer Ingelheim molecules that you can access on this portal. Some are available through a simple ordering process with no associated costs. To access the other molecules, designated in our portal by a symbol of a crown on the vial label, you are asked to submit a research proposal. If your proposal is selected, these compounds will be accessible to you in collaboration with Boehringer Ingelheim and the science developed together.

Molecules for order
Our Molecules for order are highly validated pre-clinical compounds bolstered by a wealth of scientific data. The chemical structure and the data package for these compounds are disclosed on the portal. After selecting your molecule of interest and placing it in the Molecule Cart, you will be asked to provide your shipping address, register your institutional affiliation and accept our legal standard clauses set forth in our legal disclaimer. On our side, we will rapidly check your affiliation as part of a process which we call “verification” and then ship 5 mg of the requested compound. For any other questions, or for studies requiring a larger amount of compound, please get in touch with us through the Contact Us page . With these Molecules for order we aim to help scientists validate their scientific hypotheses and independently publish their data to advance science quickly.
Molecules for collaboration
Our Molecules for collaboration are unique substances, and in many cases, we will be the first group to disclose and share with the scientific community compounds addressing a particular mechanism of action and/or having specific properties. These molecules may only be accessed through a research collaboration with Boehringer Ingelheim. Should you be interested in obtaining one of these compounds, you are required to develop a short research collaboration proposal. A concise data package of each Molecule for collaboration is available to facilitate development of your proposal. Upon selection of the molecule of interest you will be guided to a collaboration proposal upload page which contains a submission template and other useful information. In addition, please refer to the Collaboration FAQs to learn what is required for a successful proposal. Should your collaboration proposal be selected by Boehringer Ingelheim scientists for further evaluation, you will be contacted for in depth discussions which will lead to a collaboration agreement with mutually agreed upon terms and conditions in cases where the discussions can be completed successfully.
Intellectual Property Considerations
The advancement of science is guided by the development and revision of testable hypotheses. It requires the generation of new evidence, new theories and new techniques that can be owned under the banner of ‘intellectual property’ (IP). To foster innovation, we strive to ensure that the IP interests of all parties are adequately addressed:
- Through our Molecules for order initiative, Boehringer Ingelheim will share, at no cost to you, compounds without entering into IP discussions
- In our Molecules for collaboration initiative, we will reach mutual agreement on IP ownership through a collaboration agreement which will be jointly established
