opnMe.com is proud to sponsor the ´Principal Investigators of Tomorrow´ (PIOT) competition of the LS2 Annual meeting for the second year in a row. This edition of the meeting will be held virtually from Feb 17-19, 2021 and aims to bring together life scientists from all over the world.

Life Sciences Switzerland (LS2) is a non-profit society connecting international researchers working in the life sciences domain. The LS2 Annual e-Meeting 2021 is themed around "Mechanisms in Health, Disease and Ageing". As part of the PIOT pitch, scientists who are about to transition to their next career step to form an independent scientific group, compete to win one of two prestigious prizes. One of it will be awarded by the LS2 jury of four professors, and the other one by the audience at the e-meeting. The whole process closely resembles an actual interview process for a Principal Investigator position. It requires each finalist to present their scientific achievements, teaching statement, scientific project to develop, and their contribution to academia and society.

The motivation of opnMe.com to sponsor this event came from the observation that especially young scientists who are at the beginning of their career are the ones who order our well-characterized probe compounds to test their biological hypotheses. The ability to think out of the box, to pursue novel research approaches and come up with new and challenging biological hypotheses is a skill which we would like to encourage with our collection of free molecules.

We wish all finalists of the PIOT session the very best and look forward to learning about their science!

About opnMe:

opnMe.com, the new open innovation portal of Boehringer Ingelheim, aims to accelerate research initiatives to enable new insights of disease biology in areas of high unmet medical need by sharing well-characterized molecules and offer collaborations for science. In the spirit of collaboration, our molecules are provided to the scientific community to help unlock and fulfil their full potential. These molecules are either freely available as “Molecules to Order” or applied via scientific research submissions as “Molecules for Collaboration”. As part of our third pillar, our “opn2EXPERTS” program, we also enlist scientific advice on key biologic issues to fuel further drug discovery and deliver novel solutions that benefit unmet patient needs.
